The village of Highcliffe sits on the border of the New Forest National Park and enjoys a picturesque stretch of the Solent coastline.
It has its own Grade 1 listed Castle, which was built in the early 1800’s and was leased out by retail magnate Harry Selfridge between 1916 and 1922 as his family home. Harry is buried in the local graveyard at St. Marks Church, together with his wife Rose and his Mother. Highcliffe Castle is often mistaken for the magnificent country house of Highclere Castle, where the popular TV series of Downton Abbey was filmed.
