Mcarthurglen Designer Outlet Becomes One Of The World's Greenest Shopping Centre

Europe’s leading designer outlet McArthurGlen welcomes over 90 million visitors each year across the 24 outlets in nine countries, offering guests year-round savings of up to 60% off premium fashion and homeware brands. This autumn, McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Ashford will unveil the much-anticipated expansion, welcoming up to 50 new leading brands and restaurants.
Forming part of the £90 million expansion, McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Ashford has partnered with leading green infrastructure company, Biotecture to create Europe’s largest living wall installation.
The £1.5 million living wall installation which required 120,000 plants for the project - equating to the length of 60 double decker buses – will vertically cover 25,000 sq. ft., spanning across the walls of the new entry promenade, various walkways and many of the new stores.
The wall will include leafy greens, background foliage, plus seasonal pops of colour selected specifically to create clean air zones. Some of the plants that will allow people to reconnect with nature include Fortune’s Spindle, Boxleaf Honeysuckle and Ivy, providing year-round coverage and texture, as well as Elephant’s Ears ‘Baby Doll’, Rose of Sharon, Heuchera and Viola to provide bright hues in shades of pink, purple, lilac, yellow.
